3 Signs Your Home Is Giving You That You Need A Storage Unit

A storage unit can be a great extension to your home space. It allows you an extra space to store the items that you don't use all the time but still need to access or use for part of the year. Having a storage unit can help keep your home more organized and less cluttered. If you are not sure if you need a storage unit, take a look around your home and see if it is giving you any signs.

#1 Overflowing Closets

When you open up closets in your home, are you trying to push back the items to ensure that nothing falls out? Are your closets so full that to get to something you need to use, you have to pull out and move multiple boxes?

Your closet is a storage area; however, it should be an accessible storage area. You should be able to clearly see and grab what you need out of your closet. If all the closets in your home are overstuffed, you probably need to rent a storage unit.

#2 Overflowing Cupboards

Next, take a look at your cupboards. Do you have a bunch of cupboards that are so full of items it feels like going on a scavenger hunt to find what you need? Just because you can fit the items into your cupboards doesn't mean that you should.

Just like your closets, your cupboards should not be overstuffed and it should be easy to quickly pull out the items you need from your cupboard.

#3 Full Garage

It is easy for a garage to transition from a space to park your vehicle into a storage space. It is outside of your home, so you may not feel that bad when it gets filled up with clutter. However, like your closets and your cupboards, your garage should not be overflowing with items. You should be able to use your garage for its intended purpose, as a place to park your vehicles.

If you can't park your car in your garage, or you are bumping up against boxes and items getting in and out of your car, you need a storage unit. You can transfer all the items that you store in your garage into your storage unit.

If you have overflowing closets and cupboards throughout your home, and a garage that is stuffed full of items, you need a storage unit. Take some time to go through all the items in your closets, cupboard, and garage, throwing away and donating what you don't need. Then, decide what you need immediate access to and box up the rest and move it into storage. Keep in mind that a storage unit can be an evolving area where you move items in and out of your storage as necessary.
